What I read today
06 July 2009, 0900-1200
It is about 9 am where all first year students of Housing, Building and Planning‘s school (HBP) enter one of the HBP lecture’s hall (E48B). By referring to the time table for 1st semester, 2009/2010, it is clearly state that 0900-11.50 is the time where RUS 101 is will be held. So, all the first year students of HBP’s school had their first class at HBP on the first period of the time table. Outside the hall, a serene landscape surrounding the HBP’s buildings and we can see a lot of tree, green grass and others. Before they enter the hall, all the students were gathering outside the hall, enjoying the view of the green landscape and anxiously waiting for the hall’s door to be open. Once it is open, they all quickly enter the hall and find their sitting place. They fill up chair in front and this is obviously show that they are ready and excited to start the class. Then, Mr. Wan Burhanuddin Wan Abidin enters the hall. He is one of the studio masters. He starts the class by introducing what are going to be learned by students today and all the studio masters. All of the students were being introduced to reading and documenting. Then he explained what is read’s mean. He shows us all the meaning of read, which is taken from dictionary and from other resources. He then explained to us to of these terms:
INTENTION ACT PRODUCT
ACTORS RULES SITE
To have a product, it must have an act and to have the act it must begin with intention. Intention is important before we start doing anything. It is to ensure that we know what we will be doing or what we need to do. Then we will be inspired. According to Mr. Wan Burhanuddin Wan Abidin, intention is the first thing to do before getting inspired. Along the class period, there is one student who raised his hand and asked Mr. Wan Burhanuddin Wan Abidin which is the most important thing to begin with and he had answered the question by telling the student that is we must have our intention before doing anything. His answer is acceptable by all students in the hall. No arguments or questions after that. He furthers his lecture about documentation. There are several tools to:
1. Document
-text, images…etc (still, moving)
2. Communicate
-text, images, models…etc (present, argue, show, negotiate)
3. Design
-images, prototypes, spaces...etc.
4. Construct
-a page> a page in history..etc
5. Serve
-bottom billion> top ten..etc
He then proceeds to the next agenda. All the new students were given 10 projects and it must be conducted under 10 different studio masters. So, we had chosen and joined a few group that lead by different studio masters. Our first project which called project 1A, asking us to built a website which is title as My Home. In the website we need to include two contents, which is “What I read today, 06 July 2009, 0900-1200” and the other one is “My Big Bang!” .The deadline is due on Friday, 10 July 2009, 0800. We must include our full name on the website. After that, he gives us lectures on originality and plagiarism. He shows us one of the website that done by HBP’s student which is not originally her ideas and she copy all the information from a website. This is one of the examples of plagiarism. At 1200, he let us out for lunch
